Commuting to New York City

The commuting time on the Midtown Direct Train Line of NJ Transit from Maplewood/South Orange/Montclair and Glenridge is approximately 30 minutes.  The train either goes direct into Newark and Penn Station or Hoboken, where you can transfer to the PATH to the lower Manhattan Financial District.

Commuter Permit Parking for Maplewood Residents

The Township provides commuter parking at $160 per vehicle per calendar year around the train station area. Proof of Residency and valid Driver's License are required. There is also Jitney Service to the Train available to Maplewood residents on three routes throughout town. It runs during both morning and evening rush hours. Jitney service is $70 per pass per calendar year of $7 or you can purchase a book of 10 Ride coupons for $7 per book. Passes are good through December 31. Combination Parking Permit and Jitney Pass is $180. Jitney Service to South Orange Train station is available to residents in Gregory or St. Cloud sections of West Orange.

Applications can be filled out in person at the Maplewood Clerk's Office at 574 Valley Street or through the Maplewood Township Services Web site.

Completed applications can also be dropped off at Maplewood Concierge in the Train Station. For more information, contact the Clerk's office at 973-762-8120.

New Jersey Path

The PATH heavy rail transit system serves as the primary transit link between Manhattan and neighboring New Jersey urban communities and suburban railroads.

Bus Service

West Orange has one of the area's most sophisticated Park & Ride facilities for those who prefer the bus, located on Northfield Ave. Community Coach services this line.

In Montclair, bus service is provided by DeCamp Bus Company, which also services Glen Ridge, The Caldwells, Verona, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, East Orange, parts of West Orange and other towns.

New Jersey Transit buses also run through Verona and Cedar Grove.

Bus To NYC from Livingston: Provides service from Livingston & West Orange into the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. Also services Atlantic City.
